What is a Web Application?

Application Development A website is a page or collection of pages that display information on the internet. Web applications, or Rich Internet Applications (RIA), are presented as either a website or simply a portion of a web site, but not every web sites is, or contains a web applications. A web application basically is a website that is used to accomplish some task other than display content to the masses. An application is intended for user interactions, transactions and, performing actual business functions. Many companies use web applications for time keeping, payroll, budgeting, analyzing information, tracking progress, etc. This list could undoubtedly go on forever, but you get the idea.

  • Facebook - A social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them.
  • GMail - Gmail is a free Web-based e-mail service that's intuitive, efficient, and useful.
  • Ebay - An auction application used to buy and sell electronics, cars, fashion apparel, collectibles, sporting goods, digital cameras, and everything else
  • Paypal - The faster, safer way to send money, make an online payment, receive money or set up a merchant account.
  • Wikipedia - A web application which allows people to add, modify, or delete content in a collaboration with others.
  • instagram - is a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your life with friends and family.
  • YouTube - An application where people share videos with friends, family, and the world.
  • Twitter - An application that instantly connect to what's most important to you. Follow your friends, experts, favorite celebrities, and breaking news.
